Nocturnal Bruxism

I wanted to talk to you about nocturnal bruxism and the effect it can have on you. Brux is a condition where you're sound asleep in bed, yet your jaw is still working and grinding away on your teeth. I think when you really get down to it that this happens to just about everyone. Typically it isn't severe enough, so there is no damage and when you wake up in the morning you don't have the slightest clue that there was a problem. The other people out there have it really bad and they need to stop it before it destroys their mouth. I'm going to discuss some solutions of nocturnal bruxism that you might find effective.

Typically this kind of behavior will leave a person waking up with a sore jaw, aching teeth, headache and a gritty mouth. Most of these people can tell there is a problem.

One of the most common solutions for this is a mouth guard. It is no different than a mouth guard you'd use for football because it fulfills the need of protecting your teeth. All you do is sleep with the mouth guard, it is impossible for you to grind your teeth.

If you really want to address the root cause of nocturnal bruxism, than you need to address the stress and anxiety in your life. These are the reasons it occurs. Typically what happens is that we go to bed, our mind clears and our body doesn't move. When you're stressed out, you have things on your mind and they don't go away when you fall asleep. The best way to handle this problem is identifying the stress in your life and neutralizing it. Sometimes it is difficult to identify, so talking to a shrink might be necessary.
